Wagga Rules win State Senior Triples Title

Last week the NSW State Championships were played @ Ettalong Bowling Club on the state’s Central Coast. On the first weekend Zone 8 were represented in the Triples by Young in the Open, Wagga Rules in the Seniors and by Narrandera in the State President’s Reserve Triples. Both Young and Narrandera failed to win their sections which left the boys from Wagga Rules to fly the flag for Zone 8 in the State President’s Reserve Fours.

In the semi-final the team of Doug Kinder, John Hetherington and Peter (Pedro) Rudd played The Hills (Zone 10) and defeated them to set up a final against Westport from Zone 14.

The opening stages of the State Senior Triples final saw the Westport combination of Col Baldwin, Richard Lee and Michael Brennan take the advantage. They opened the scoring against Doug Kinder, John Hetherington and Peter Rudd (Wagga Rules) with a count of 5 and then lead 9-1 after 3 ends. The Wolves (Wagga Rules) then fought back to trail 9-10 and then levelled the scores at 14 apiece after 14 ends. Westport again looked to have taken the ascendancy leading 22-15 after 19 ends. The Wagga Rules trio however again fought back to level the scores at 22-22 after 23 ends. The Wolves then closed out the final, scoring singles on both remaining ends to take the championship 24-22.

Congratulations to Wagga Rules on winning the inaugural State Senior Triples title and bringing another State title home to Zone 8.
